I liked using Bluefish as a text editor for HTML code. Not too basic, not too over the top and heavy. It has the required features including a choice of PERL or POSIX regular expression search and replace. The code highlighting is good, not just for HTML, but also CSS and PHP scripts. The interface is a little cluttered and it is not immediately obvious how to hide some of the toolbars. A beginner to HTML might appreciate these more, than someone who likes to hand code. Bluefish is easy to get up and going, so I did not need any support, but from the web site I am not sure how much there is outside mailing lists. Development seems nice and active, with many development versions released recently. The version I used 1.0.7 was very stable. A good middle ground HTML/web editor with a very nice price.

I have been using Bluefish for a few weeks and really like it. The interface has a lot of features that will appeal to beginners and it has a nice friendly feel to it. If like me you just prefer to hand code everything then you will find that the extra features wont stand in your way. I like the sidebar because it has a navigator that allows you to click on a folder to see a list of all it's files. This is an essential feature that I always look for in an editor. Bluefish allows you to create a project for each site and remembers the project settings between editing sessions. A very good editor in my opinion.
