I have tried a lot of free and commercial IDE’s including Zend Studio and Zend Studio for Eclipse. After using Zend Studio for a long time, i searched for a faster IDE with similar features. I came across phpEd and i’m usinng it since then (for over 2 years now).

The IDE is great and offers the best code completion i have found yet. Even if you open a file directly via FTP or SFTP, the code completion of the open project is used. That helps a lot if you use a framework and have to work on several projects on different servers.

You can configure most of the parts of the IDE, debugger and external tools.

The IDE itself has everything a PHP developer needs. There is also support for HTML and CSS.

    Pro:
    Fast
    A lot of features
    great code completion
    good debugger
    good project management / sync

    Con:
i am missing some nice little tools (like code-snippets or the #todo#-list like you have in eclipse)

phpEd is a great IDE and i’m working with it 10 hours every day. I personally like the idea behind Eclipse – and i own a Zend Studio for Eclipse version. But for the way i work, phpEd fits much better. Also phpEd is much faster than Zend (and PDT and Aptana). But i really miss the Tasktop extension runs in Eclipse (if you don’t know this extension, you really have missed something!).
