Open Source Web Application Framework in PHP.

Designed to enable, not overwhelm, Code Igniter is a powerful PHP framework with a very small footprint, built for PHP coders who need a simple and elegant toolkit to create full-featured web applications.

I have used quite a few frameworks in my life. Iīve bounced aroound CMS systems that some people like to call frameworks, some frameworks that are in the big list, and some that donīt even exist anymore. Codeigniter is quite a versatile one. Very simple to install, as simple to develop on. It is very stable (at least frm my experience on it). It is not resource intensive like some of the FW out there. I have a site running that occasionally gets avisitor boom of a couple hundred thousand users in a 6 hour span. The site holds pretty well. The only initial problem I faced was with the fact that it comes pre-configured to use persistant connections. Which was quite a bummer. It comes with a whole bunch of "developer freindly" tools, such as recorset classes, and other very usefull stuff to convert between numbers, dats and what not with great ease. If you are a developer looking for a good starting point to develop from, then I would recommend this. If you are just looking to join up a bunch of fancy ready made tools, I would have to say that CI is not the most feature packed FW in the market. It boils down to what you really need. So just to finish off, a summary: Setup & install is a snap, development is greatly eased, very low learning curve (as long as you are familiar to a MVC approach). The online docs are fabulous, and if push comes to shove, the IRC channel is very handy. people (including me) do help out quite a bit there.

CodeIgniter has everything I need. I wasn't looking for a framework that did everything for me and cost me in terms of the footprint and speed, I was looking for an easy to use, lean and fast, with capability of vast expansion. CodeIgniter fit the bill. You won't find a better supported framework either. Between the online manual, wiki, forums, and the IRC channel, you can get every answer you ever dreamed of quickly and easily. I'll not be going back to another framework. This one does everything I need a framework to do.
